Candace Hill Wins Gatorade High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year - Competitor.com (25/6/15)

Earlier this morning, the Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports announced Candace Hill of Rockdale County High School in Conyers, Ga., as its 2014-15 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The 16-year-old, who will begin her junior year this fall, recently became the first high school girl to break the 11-second barrier in the 100m at the Brooks PR Invitational last weekend, clocking an official time of 10.98 seconds. Tennessee Test Score Results Show Gains in all High School Subjects - Times Free Press (6/26/15)

State education officials say they're taking steps to address reading test scores that have remained relatively flat in early grade levels over the past five years. Gov. Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced results of the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program at a press conference at the state Capitol on Thursday. San Marcos Alumni Foundation Theater Group Presents Spamalot - Independent.com (6/25/15)

The success of performing arts education programs, especially those in public high schools, should not necessarily be judged by the number of theater professionals they put into the community but rather by the enthusiasm for the craft that they engender in their students. Within that framework, the San Marcos High School Performing Arts Department is certainly effective: SMHS produces two main-stage shows a year, and alumni have formed the SMHS Alumni Foundation Theater Group (AFTG) to produce annual fundraising shows. HBCU Alumni to Race Against Health Disparities in Black Communities - Huffington Post (6/25/15)

This Saturday, hundreds of alumni from historically black colleges and universities throughout the country will gather for the annual DC HBCU Alumni Alliance 5K Run and Community Health and Wellness Fair. The annual race serves as a summertime gathering for friends connected by the HBCU experience, and in support of raising scholarship money for students who will attend black colleges in the fall.
